God’s word 18 / 02/2022.
- Good morning viewers. Today on God’s word, we are going to be looking at Genesis 21 vs 22.
And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest, this should be noted.
Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son, but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, now what was the kindness he talked about.
1. For releasing Sarah Abraham’s wife, because he would have married her.
2. The gift that he offered to Abraham so as to remove the reproach from his kindred.
This was the kindness that he showed to Abraham, and we all remember that God was in it all and so Abraham could live in peace.
Vs 25, and Abraham reprove Abimelech because of the well of water which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away, and so Abimelech called for Abraham and so they could have peace and not fight with each other over the well that he dug.
Vs 32, this they made a convenant at Beer-sheba, then A-bim-e-lech rose up and Phicol the chief captain of his host, and they returned unto the land of the Philippines, points to be noted here, the bible said that he returned to the land of the Philippines, which means that he came from the Philistines.
Now we remember it was Gerar that God gave Abraham instructions to settle at, and then it was there that he saw Abimelech, who wanted to take his wife, and then the judgement of God was about to come to his kindred, now this Abimelech wasn’t from Gerar as was thought, because the bible said that he returned to the land of the Philistines, meaning he came from Philistines, and then be was a set up for Abraham.
Or peradventure he heard about Abraham and then he came to this land in disguise, though he was a king, but he wasn’t a king in Gerar which was the land that God asked Abraham to live in, and he probably came all because of Abraham to know his God.
Could we learn from God’s word, and the truth that is unveiled from time to time. This Abimelech king was probably a king maybe in one of the towns of the Philistines, because the bible said that he returned to the Philistines, which means, he came from the Philistines.
We know only God understands the ways and secret of a man now Abraham wouldn’t have thought like this and then ask questions, on why or maybe later for so long, this king wasn’t seen again in Gerar, and when we read later down the scripture, the bible talked about how the ark of God was stolen by the Philistines, and then people couldn’t understand why and how and then struggled to get the ark back, but if only someone could think and then just the same way this Abimelech king acted and then realized that God was with Abraham, and then he began to find out what he can do to connect this God, and all of these happened because as at the time, people worshipped other gods, and so they probably heard of this one bigger god, and then found out that Abraham was connected to this god, and they watched Abraham and then realize that he was blessed, and then they actually drew their conclusion on when he dug a well and found water, and then the taking of the well by Abimelech’s servants wasn’t a joke at all, it was all planned, seeing that they needed to know this bigger god.
And this was why later the ark of God was stolen by the Philistines. And can we learn from all of these events and encounter, this is because even till today, we just have theses sets of people that look out for what we do, they tend to or even monitor all others activities, just to find out one or two things from them, and still there are times we might not even know what is happening or get the signal that someone is trying to know more about us, and then we just feel reluctant, now this is where the spirit of God comes in, the spirit that knows the heart of every man, the spirit that unveils secrets and mysteries, that’s the spirit we need to let us know when we are being monitored not for good, and there is some one there that wants to find out about us not for good, but for evil later on, and so we could know where to stand, and so we wouldn’t be surprise at what we would see later on, the spirit of God is the only that can help out in all of these, and so we wouldn’t be a victim, and be rest assured that we would gain victory.
